This happened in 1988 in Canton, Ohio. My best friend’s mom had just passed away, and my friend lived in my basement. Well, the night my friend’s mom died, he told me he was going over to his stepfather Jack’s to stay with him to keep him company. He left around 5:00 PM.

I was bored and decided to call another friend of mine to come over to play a game. Roger came over, and we were playing a card game, when all of a sudden we both heard the basement door that leads outside slam shut. I looked down the cold airshaft and I saw my best buddy was home and didn't stay at his mom’s house with Jack. He walked down the basement steps and headed into the basement where my friend’s room was. I shouted to him through the heater vent across the room, but he didn’t answer me at all, then I saw him leave his room and head back toward the steps to the back door. I made it back to the cold airshaft and yelled his name, and he walked backwards toward the shaft and looked up at me.

It was not my friend at all, but it looked exactly like him at first. This thing had dark red, glowing eyes and what seemed to be a lot of sharp, yellow teeth, pointed at the end and a dark-colored tongue. It laughed at us, and then walked back to my friend’s room. My friend Roger went outside and grabbed his 12-gauge shotgun from his truck, and we went downstairs. I was scared to death.

We walked around looking for my friend and found nothing or nobody. We left the basement and went back to playing the game, both wondering what just happened, when we heard an evil laugh. I looked down into the cold airshaft and there he was again, grinning with those pointed yellow teeth, and his tongue whipping around laughing at us. Wanting help badly, I called the police, and within 10 minutes my alley was full of police cars. I went outside and met them, explained again what was happening, and they agreed to take a look.

I opened the basement door to let them in, and I tried to go first, but the policeman grabbed my shirt and pulled me out of the basement door; he said that’s what the dogs are for, so they let the dogs in the basement first, and then the police went in, then me. The cops were looking everywhere in and around my basement. Found no one there whatsoever, and then one cop asked, “Where are the dogs?”

We walked around the back corner of the basement and saw the six or seven police dogs circling the basement corner, growling and barking at the corner in the basement. Looking to see if someone or something was in the corner, all of a sudden we all heard a shrill screaming noise coming from that corner. All the dogs yelped like they were being attacked and ran for the door to go outside. Then one of the cops said, “Well, looks like we’re done here,” and all of them left.

We figured it was over, so we sat back down to continue our game, and then we heard laughing again; we looked back down the cold airshaft and there it was looking at us and laughing. I quickly locked the door into the upstairs by shoving knives into the framework to keep the door shut, and I put a bath towel over the cold air chute. Roger went home.

The next day, I went down to the basement, and in my friend’s room there was a mess on the wall—I saw the numbers 666 on the wall, and I swear it was written in blood. About a week later, my best bud finally came home, and we have tried to paint over the wall the 666 was on, but that painting of 666 always bled through the new paint. We never saw that demon or devil again, but a lot of other things have happened after that day, and we have a feeling he’ll be back to visit soon.
